The 2019 Festival will be in
West End Park March
from 7th to 9th JUNE

March Summer Festival is a major community event which has been running alongside the March Lions Club Gala, in its present format since the year 2000. Originally the Festival also formed part of the Fenland Colourscape Music Festival.  Now, an open-air stage is set up in West End Park for a weekend and the programme encompasses music and activities to appeal to all ages and tastes. The aim is to bring the community together to celebrate and enjoy local musical and dance talent.

Welcome to the twentieth March Summer Festival.  Once again I believe that there is something for everyone at this year’s Festival.

Friday night is, of course, young bands night organised again by Tom Harlock.

On Saturday we have the parade with classic cars, walkers and floats. This year we continue with the shorter parade route but the colour and spectacle will, I am assured, be as good as ever.

After the parade there will be presentations on the stage for the parade and fancy dress and after this there are dance acts and a variety of musical styles culminating with COLDPLACE.

The Parade and the Fancy Dress this year will have the theme of "Space Travel and Aliens"  in part to commemorate 50 years since the first moon landing (although I don't recall them finding "Aliens").

Sunday’s “Picnic in the Park” is its usual laid back self with some diverse musical acts.

Your compere for the weekend will again be the ever popular Gary Tustin.

Away from the stage Saturday will also have the Lions Gala in the Park as well as fairground rides and Kirby's Kastles over the weekend and, on Sunday, children’s entertainment and once again a dog show.

From all the Committee, I would like to thank everyone involved with the festival and wish all of you a fantastic weekend.

Why is there a little pink pig hanging below the March Summer Festival banner above the stage?

The little pig was left in West End Park and handed in as lost property a number of years ago. It was not claimed and as it seemed to sum up the achievement of the festival – turning the empty park into the busy festival site sometimes feels a bit like managing to get “pigs to fly!” For a while the little pig was suspended in the control caravan and then it was decided to 'fly' it from the rigging above the stage.
